This term year 3 have been learning all about Ancient Greece. We have learnt how to locate Greece on a map of Europe and found out all about Athens. We have also looked at the weather in Greece and have even become weather forecasters for the day and reported on the weather at the first ever Greek Olympics!
In English we have read a number of Greek Myths and have even had a go at writing our own! We created our own settings, mythological creatures and heroes to go in these myths and of course used some super adjectives to make sure that we added lots of description.

We learned about a range of different vases and what the Greeks used them for. We even became detectives for the day and solved the puzzle of the broken Greek vases in the museum.
In D&T we have designed and made our own Greek vases which could replace the broken vases in the museum. We thought carefully about what our vase would be used for, what shape we wanted it to be and what colours the Greeks would have used to decorate their vases.
To consolidate all of our learning about Ancient Greece we have recently had a Greek Day. On this day we were visited by a Greek, who told us all about how he lived. We took part in a theatre performance of Theseus and the Minotaur, where we gave Oscar winning performances! Polly also gave us a quiz to take part in to find out lots of fun facts about Greece and gave us a very challenging maths activity to complete. In the afternoon we took part in our very own Greek Olympics. We had a great day!
In science we have been learning about Forces and Magnets. We thought about pushes and pulls and created freeze frames to see if our friends could guess what forces were happening to us. Can you guess what the forces are in the pictures?
We are currently learning about magnets. We are going to be investigating how magnets work and will be predicting and testing whether a range of items are magnetic or non magnetic. Take a look at the website below to find out more information about magnets and how they work.

We are working hard in year 3, practicing our times tables and spellings. In class we are currently working on our 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables. Miss Ainsworth and Mr Baker would be very grateful if we could continue to practice these as much as possible at home so that we can use them within our work. :) Thankyou.

In the spring term we will begin to look at our new topics of 'Why people choose to visit the UK and Europe' in our topic work, and 'Rocks and Soils' in our Science lessons. As part of these lessons, we have planned a visit to Peak Caverns in Derbyshire where we will be able to go into caverns and take a look at real life examples of what we are learning about. Click on the link below to find out more about our visit.
