LENGTH OF THE SCHOOL DAY CHANGES

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Dear Parents & Carers,

I am writing to you regarding important changes that the school is required to make to the length of the school day. Whilst these changes can seem small, I am aware they can have a huge impact on families’ lives. For this reason, I am informing you of the changes in time to be ready for September 2022 and the start of a new school year.

Following the release of the government’s new ‘White Paper on Education’, schools have been directed to ensure that their pupils are in school for 6 ½ hours a day (32 ½ hours a week). Previously, because of our shortened lunch break, we were able to finish school 15 minutes earlier (3pm) however, new statutory information from the Department for Education (DfE) states that this is no longer possible.

As a result, St. Luke’s CE Primary School will be lengthening the school day to 3.15pm from Wednesday 7th September 2022 and going forward in the future.

Collection from school will still occur in the same way but 15 minutes later than currently. The playground gates will be open by 3.10pm for parent to collect their children on time.

Start of the School Day

During Coronavirus, to reduce the flow of people on the school site, we introduced a ‘drop & go’ start to school from 8.30am. From September 2022, we will return to the previous strategy arrival with doors opening at 8.40am (children must be supervised between 8.30 – 8.40am), ready for children to be registered at 8.45am. Children arriving after 8.45 should enter through the school office, please sign them in. A late mark will be added to your child’s attendance record.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Extra-Curricular Activities will now begin at 3.15pm and end at 4.15pm, just 15 minutes later than before.

Breakfast Club & After School Club

There will be NO CHANGE to the arrangements for Breakfast Club & After-school Club.

Can I suggest that you give some thought immediately to how this might affect you and your family? Consider childcare arrangements, arrival and dismissal times and inform other people involved in arrival and collection of your child at school.

FAITH
  • Through our Christian school and ethos, we all aim to believe in ourselves, each other, our teachers, leaders and parents. With reflection and prayer, we trust in God that our prayers will be heard. We know that every child is a child of Jesus, treating everyone with respect and dignity that they deserve.

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
